The Gypsum Ponds outside the town of Gypsum were created from the gravel mining needed for the construction of I-70. These ponds are maintained by the state and are stocked heavily with cutthroat trout, although many other species may be caught as well. The fish in these ponds tend to be rather undescriminating in their feeding, and so may be a good place to fish for the novice fisherman.
