Roaring Judy State Fish Hatchery: From Gunnison, take highway 135 north past the town of Almont. The public fishing area is about 4 miles north of Almont and about 13 miles south of Crested Butte along highway 135.

Town of Gothic fishing area: From the river's origin at Emerald Lake down to the town of Gothic, the river is open to public fishing. To get there from Crested Butte, take highway 135 north and follow it to Gothic, about 8 miles. The public fishing begins just north of the town.
