The Lower Taylor River flows along highway 742 north of Almont. Much of the river is accessible to the public, although some of the land along the river is privately owned.

The Upper Taylor River is the section above Taylor Reservoir. There is public access just above the inlet to the lake at River's Inn campground, then there are several miles of private land along the river. The river becomes public again at Dinner Station campground, and continues for about 10 miles until Dorchester campground.
