Green Mountain Reservoir was created in the early 40's as part of the Big Thompson Project. Nestled between the Gore and Williams Ranges, this scenic but rustic reservoir, only 1 1/2 hours from Denver, continues to be one of the high country's best kept secrets. Due to development restrictions this area is pleasantly under-commercialized and seldom crowded. The amenities are few, simple and basic but the fishing is great.
Boat ramps are located at the Heeney Marina and McDonald Flats Campground. Both open about late June as water levels permit. From early May to June "rough" launching is possible at gravel points at the Willows and Cow Creek camp areas.
Contains: Rainbow Trout, Brown Trout, Lake Trout (Mackinaws), and Kokanee Salmon.
